[edit] Download and Installation
The version number of the OpenTMS Data Source Editor currently depends on the download you take. The system is based on Java and can be installed on different operating systems. The installation to run depends on the current set up of your OpenTMS system. If you have not installed OpenTMS, you can use one of the complete Windows installers, if you have already installed a previous version, there is a update available to download.

[edit] Development status July 2009
According to the FOLT Newsletter July 2009 the openTMS development status was at that time as follows:
The beta version of openTMS Data Source Editor was available:
- It is now possible to use the Data Source Editor to maintain and administer openTMS Translation Memories for the first time.
- The installation files for the Data Source Editor as part of the openTMS XML-RPC Server for Windows can now be downloaded from here.
- "Google Translate" was used as a (read-only) data source, in order to test the possibilities of the integration of machine translation.
- The free Araya version, available to download at Heartsome Free Araya includes the openTMS translation plugin with which this integration can be tested.
[edit] Previous versions
The first version of OpenTMS was published on 20th of April 2009.
[edit] Next version
According to the FOLT Newsletters July 2009 resp. October 2009 the openTMS next steps were planned as follows:
[edit] Development steps
[edit] OpenTMS Roadmap
Information about the further development plans for OpenTMS can be found in the OpenTMS Roadmap.
[edit] July 2009
- Currently the unfocussed search function is being optimised, by direct integration of the unfocussed search in SQL databases using Stored Procedures, amongst others. On the one hand, the memory requirements of the client processor should therefore be reduced; on the other, it should always be possible to view an updated SQL data source.
- Further activities include the improvement and development of the Data Source Editor, as well as support for "sub-segment-matching" as a further method of translation. "Sub-segment-matching" means the finding of translations beneath segment level, e.g. via terminology entries.
- This version will be available by the "Übersetzen in die Zukunft (Translation in the Future)" German Association of Professional Interpreters and Translators (BDÜ) conference in Berlin.
- To does (14.07.2009)
[edit] October 2009
- The openTMS Steering Group was demonstrating the latest version of openTMS at the accompanying trade fair at the tekom Annual Conference that took place in Wiesbaden, Germany from 4 to 6 November. During the past few months we have been able to push ahead with the development of openTMS in such a way that we will be able to integrate openTMS as the standard TM system in a number of workflows of interested customers and software partners. This gives us very good prospects for the openTMS development preview in 2010.
[edit] April 2010
OpenTMS will be present at the tekom spring conference from 29th to 30th of April in Schweinfurt, Germany. On their booth 11 they will present the newest developments regarding the openTMS.
[edit] Search for co-operation partners for the development of modules
- You can download an updated overview of the modules that are to be developed/further developed here. You might find something that interests you!
- The results of the web-based questionnaire about freely available Translation Memory Systems (TMS) are available and can be viewed here We would like to thank everyone who took part in the questionnaire.
[edit] Foundation of a terminology working group
According to the FOLT Newsletter an openTMS terminology working group, initiated and presented by Thomas Wedde and Ulrike Baral has been founded.
[edit] July 2009
Representatives from industry, high schools, the civil service, translation service providers and the software industry will be taking part in this working group. In this working group, the requirements for the openTMS terminology tool will be developed.
The written OpenTMS Specification was scheduled to be available by the end of October 2009.
[edit] October 2009
In the area of terminology, by founding a working group with representatives from federal agencies, a university, industry and software development, we have been able to create a terminology concept that provides the basic requirements for the terminology module. The written version of the concept will soon be made available for discussion on the openTMS website.
