[edit] My general interest in Translation Memory Systems
About ten years ago I worked as project management assistant for a small German translation and localization company managing translation projects with tools like Star Transit, Termstar, RC-WinTrans, Babylon translator, Textpad and others.
The company I work for today is a member of tekom and the tekom Newsletter was a possibility for myself to stay informed a little bit about translation subjects, especially as I never lost the interest in Translation Memory Systems, even if this is not part of my job today.
Sometimes I work, just for fun, as translator and that's why I started to support this project, because I am not using a TMS today but I am interested to do so, so why not testing one or the other open source solution and posting my experiences here in the OpenTMSWiki.

[edit] Me and this Wiki
Currently I am the only active author in this wiki, but I hope I will not be alone for a long time! I have started to build some content here:
Beside the OpenTMS Specification where I only changed and added a few lines, nearly all other content has been created by me.
[edit] Me and the OpenTMS Software
Currently I have installed the Araya Free Version and the OpenTMS full installation under Microsoft Windows XP.
[edit] Very first experience
I have been able to start the datasourceeditor.exe of the same installation without reinstalling the software not only under Windows XP but also under Windows 7 which is installed as second operating system (becoming more and more the first) on a second harddrive of my computer.
As the the installer currently does not create any shortcuts to the runtime components of OpenTMS, neither on the desktop nor in the start menu, I first had to search for the executables and found the datasourceeditor.exe and the JavaService.exe in the Installation directory of OpenTMS.
I then tried to open a data source in the data source editor as I currently also miss a better Help telling me more about the different steps to get the system running and about what to do when. Until now I have not been able to open any data source, as the button Choose Data Source is still inactive on my PC.
For sure there is a lot of improvement possible for OpenTMS, that's why I started to use this Wiki! --WikipediaMaster 20:23, 12 March 2010 (CET)

[edit] A small step forward but ...
My experience is that after installing Araya Free Version and the OpenTMS Server, I have two versions of the datasourceeditor.exe on my PC.
- Version 0.6.4 in folder c:\Program Files\OpenTMS\
- Allows to create and open data sources in different datasource formats
- Import seems to work(according to message), but no content appears in the editor
- Export seems to work but exported files are nearly empty.
- This editor work partly but I also can't delete created data sources, same error as below!
- If I try to delete the data source (de.folt.models.datamodel.sql.OpenTMSSQLDataSource), I get "Failure delete Data Source: Failed deleting Data Source data_source_name"
- Version 0.6.5 in folder c:\Program Files\OpenTMS\Araya\
- Same as above with the difference, that when I try to open a data source I get the error "Error opening Data Source: No Data Source Form could be opened for data_source_name" ==> Might be because of the selected sql data source model!?
- Currently there seem to be different OpenTMS Downloads so when to use which?
Less is more, quality instead of quantity!

[edit] Drag & Drop
Today I found out, that I can open existing XLIFF (.xlf) files and TMX files as follows:
- OpenTMS Data Source Editor
- Drag & Drop an existing TMX or XLIFF file into the editor, so the file gets added to the available data sources
- Open this file using the file menu
It is also possible to delete this files using the Delete Data Source Option from the Data Source Functions, but be careful, this does not only delete the file from the Editor, it deletes the file from your hard disk! --WikipediaMaster 14:28, 21 March 2010 (CET)
